Pilates is intelligent exercise. It challenges your mind and strengthens you from the inside out, enabling you to perform complex movements safely, with power and grace.

 

It evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs.

Pilates workouts aim to create a balance of strength and flexibility in the body through a series of exercises on the mat and equipment. Developing a strong mind-body connection and incorporating the Pilates principles into a balanced workout, will lead to an increased level of body awareness that helps students translate their workout achievements to improved posture, strength and agility. You will look better, but more importantly, you will feel better!

 

Pilates sessions can focus on fitness, rehabilitation, sport-specific training,  prenatal/postnatal and much more.  We offer private sessions and small group classes to ensure the highest quality instruction.

Pilates-based rehabilitation


 

A lot of people have correctable problems but don't know it or don't know that they can do something about it. Pilates-based rehabilitation is a way to learn about your body, correct faulty movement patterns, and reduce the likelihood of future injury. The basic goal is to restore functional efficiency within the body through muscle testing, manual therapy, Pilates-based corrective exercises, stretches and release work.

Sport Specific Training


 

Utilizing the versatility of Pilates equipment and their extensive movement background, instructors at Agile Monkey are able to work with athletes who want to improve their technique, strength, endurance and overall abilities within their field. We have worked with cyclists, rock climbers, golfers, swimmers, surfers, skiers, snowboarders, soccer players, tennis players, basketball players, gymnasts, aerialists, and dancers of all disciplines.

 

The goals and techniques are similar to Pilates-based Rehabilitation, but on the opposite extreme of the fitness spectrum. Usually when an athlete wants to improve their game, they need to address certain habits or limitations – many of which they aren’t even aware of. By doing a postural analysis and identifying weak, tight or overactive muscle groups, instructors can create a targeted workout that will compliment their existing training routine, improve their skill-set, promote overall health and reduce the likelihood of future injury.

Pilates Prenatal Services in Santa Cruz


 

Exercise is an important part of a comfortable and healthy pregnancy. Using safe and cautious pregnancy protocols, Pilates instructors at Agile Monkey work with expectant mothers through all phases of their pregnancy in private and group class settings - helping them to stay fit, relaxed and physically prepared for the changes that they are going through.

 

Instructors can also design home programs for their clients to help them in the first few months after delivery so that they can keep their bodies healthy while caring for the needs of their newborn.
